Pharaoh Ants

Pharaoh ants are a common household ant regardless of region or continent. Though common, they carry the distinction of being the “most difficult ant to control” (Nickerson, et al.). These ants are approximately 1.5 to 2 mm long and are complex; the antennae alone have 12 segments. The body color can range from yellowish or light brown to read, though the abdomen is often darker than the rest of it. They also have sparse hairs erect on parts of their body. These hairs may act similar as antennae, sensing the world around them.

Pharaoh Ants Durability

Pharaoh ants actually have the ability to survive most conventional or store-bought household pest control treatments. They have been able to infest anywhere and can pose a threat to newborns, children, elderly, and anyone with an immune disorder because they carry and can transmit over a dozen pathogens, such as: Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptoccus.

These ants, just like any pest, can infest almost all areas of a building where food or whatever is available. They have also been known to inhabit areas where food is not commonly found, like an electrical switch mechanism (Nickerson, et al., figure 4). Because they can next anywhere and usually do in inaccessible areas, the control and extermination of their nest is difficult and at times impossible for many. Treatment must include walls, ceilings, floor voids, and even electrical wall outlets (Nickerson, et al.).

Pharoah Ant Treatments

While store-bought household pest control treatments and other pest control companies use repellants to treat ants, Paffy’s Pest Control primarily uses a gel bait on interior treatments. The bait is more effective than a repellant because the repellant will only kill on contact but just deter the ants from being near where sprayed. The bait, on the other hand, draws the Pharaoh ants near to take the bait and once they either consume the bait or bring it back to the colony to eat, they die.

The bait lasts longer than a repellant, for yet another reason explaining Paffy’s success against Pharaoh ants. For spring, summer, and fall months, Paffy’s also applies an exterior spray to the foundation of a building. This spray is a granular bait, meaning it is micro-encapsulated, so the ants that reside outside of a building will be attracted to that bait, take it back to the nest, and kill off the nest. While repellants may have a quicker “fix”, Paffy’s baits for ants have a long term solution.

The pricing for ant treatments is based on the square footage of a property, but all ant treatments include a 3-month guarantee. Paffy’s does not have any hidden fees, like some companies. There is no trip fees and if you need a technician to come back out within the guarantee, it’s at no charge to you.
